According to evidence, the area was first inhabited in the Middle Paleolithic Age. In 1807, the French took the city. In 1814, the people of Parga rebelled with the help of the English, who the same year raised the English flag in the city.

The area is amongst the most beautiful on this side of Greece. The city has traditional roots allowing, you to think that you are on an island. It haw experienced great touristic development. Valtos haw a lovely sandy beach. The Archduke Ludovich Salvator of Austria who visited Parga in 1905, wrote its history and reports “…a landscape for dreaming quietly, musing and meditating… a sense of drunkenness in beauty … few areas in the Mediterranean can be compared with its beauty…”
